Generally in order to obtain a new trial on the ground of ineffective assistance of counsel, a criminal defendant must affirmatively prove that his counsels representation "fell below an objective standard of reasonableness" and "that there is a reasonable probability that, but for counsels unprofessional errors, the result of the proceeding would have been different." In this case, since defendant clearly did not meet his burden of proving prejudice, we need not and do not decide whether defendant proved that his trial counsels performance was deficient.
